Sex vibe makes JYP stronger

SBS talk show “Healing Camp” on Monday proved that singer Park Jin-young is probably the only artist in Korea who is bold enough freely to express sexual desire in his music.

“The upcoming album that I am working on right now will have the strongest sex vibe in my music career,” Park, CEO of celebrity management company JYP, said.

Since his debut in 1994, Park’s trademark has been his sexually provocative songs.

“Elevator,” from his second album, released in 1995, depicted two strangers -- a man and a woman -- getting intimate in an elevator. And his latest hit, “Who’s your mama?,” reveals his appetite for women with slim waists and big buttocks.

From a rookie singer to a mature music producer globally recognized, the veteran musician’s songs have faithfully represented his pursuit of sexual freedom.

But this has not just been represented by his songs. The controversial vinyl costume showing his underwear -- that he wore during a performance -- and the sexually provocative “butt-scrub” choreographic move during the late 1990s all made headlines for alleged obscenity.

Park's outgoing fashion code, often an issue-maker in the late 1990s, bespoke his sexual freedom.

But it is not all about sex. Park has proved his spontaneity and genius as a songwriter and music producer who not only introduced his own hit songs like “She was Pretty” (1997), “Honey” (1998) and “Kiss” (2007), but also gave birth to idol superstars under his label, including Rain, Wonder Girls, missA and 2PM. From May to July, he also auditioned on Mnet’s “SIXTEEN” members for his coming girl band TWICE.

“I have written over 500 songs and they are all based on my experiences,” Park said on the show. “I don’t write songs out of purpose. I do only when I am inspired by thoughts.”

A media report on Tuesday described Park as “one of the few Korean musicians who can translate an emotion into a rhythmic performance most naturally.”
