Hallyu stars return from quake-hit Japan

Safety confirmed via Twitter, upcoming tours cancelled

In the aftermath of the massive earthquake that hit Japan, Korean “hallyu” celebrities including actress Han Hyo-joo and girl group Kara have safely returned home.

Others were confirmed to be unharmed through social networking services, while upcoming events featuring Korean stars have been cancelled.

Actress Han Hyo-joo and producer Lee Byung-hun, who flew to the neighboring country last Thursday to promote the TV drama “Dong Yi,” survived the earthquake Friday and returned safely Saturday morning at Gimpo Airport.

“Han and Lee were supposed to stay until Sunday but everything was cancelled due to the earthquake. They were on standby at Haneda Airport and fortunately were able to buy tickets to return a day earlier,” said Han’s agency BH Entertainment.

“We heard that it was chaotic in Haneda, with everyone trying to purchase tickets, and we are very thankful they were able to return safely.”

Han and Lee were at the NHK Tokyo headquarters for a press conference Friday afternoon, when the quake hit.

“They were surprised when the building suddenly started shaking. There were no accidents because the NHK building is well equipped to withstand earthquakes, but we’re all speechless to see how badly other regions were struck,” said the agency.

Kim Jun-su, a member of boy band JYJ, also returned early Saturday morning after going to Japan for a photo shoot.

“Kim Jun-su came back home safely on Saturday and also attended a special event for fans,” said Kim’s agency. “Today I felt a tremor like I’ve never experienced before,” Kim wrote on Twitter on Friday.

Girl groups Kara and 2NE1 also came back to Seoul that day.

“At first we couldn’t even reach them by phone but we were able to confirm their safety via KakaoTalk (smartphone messenger service),” said Kara’s agency. The five singers finished shooting a Japanese TV series on Friday, the day before leaving the disaster-stricken country.

The Japanese TV music program in which 2NE1 was due to appear live on Friday was cancelled. CL flew back to Seoul on Saturday morning followed by the other three members later that day.

Actress Synn Mina, who was visiting Japan for the TV series “My Girlfriend Is a Gumiho,” was confirmed to be safe and is hurrying her return. On Thursday, she appeared in a press conference in Tokyo for the drama, and had to halt interviews with local reporters when the earthquake struck.

The TV series is to air on TBS, a major terrestrial broadcaster, beginning March 21.

The jazz band Winterplay, on a concert tour across the neighboring country, is currently in Hiroshima. They confirmed they were fine through Twitter.

Upcoming entertainment events in Japan have been cancelled or postponed. Singer-actor Kim Hyung-joon’s tour that was to begin Sunday for the TV soap “Naughty Kiss” has been called off, while it is unclear whether actor Jang Geun-suk will be able to meet some 20,000 fans in Tokyo on March 27.

한류 스타들 급거 일본에서 귀국

일본을 초토화시킨 지진의 여파로 TV 탤런트 한효주와 여성 보칼 그룹 카라 등 한류 스타들이 서둘러 안전하게 귀국했다. 그 외 연예계 인사들이 소셜네트워킹을 통해 안전함을 전했으며 한국 스타들이 출연하는 행사들이 대거 취소됐다.

지난 목요일 드라마 “동이” 홍보차 일본에 갔던 한효주와 연출가 이병훈은 금요일 일어난 지진의 피해를 입지 않고 토요일 김포공항을 통해 입국했다.

한효주의 연예기획사 BH 엔터테인먼트는 “한씨와 이씨는 일요일 귀국하기로 돼 있었는데 지진으로 모든 게 취소됐다”며 “이들 둘은 하네다 공항에서 대기 중에 있다 운 좋게 항공권을 구입 계획보다 하루 빨리 귀국했다”고 밝혔다.

기획사는 “하네다 공항은 혼돈상태에서 모든 사람들이 표를 사기 위해 안간힘을 쓰고 있다고 들었다”며 “그들이 안전하게 귀국해 매우 고맙다”고 말했다.

한씨와 이씨는 지진이 발생한 금요일 오후 NHK 도쿄본사에서 기자회견을 하고 있었다. “그들은 갑자기 빌딩이 움직이기 시작해 놀랐으나 NHK빌딩은 지진에 대비 잘 지어져 사고는 없었다”며 “그러나 다른 지역들이 당한 것을 보고 말문이 막혔다”고 말했다.

사진 촬영을 위해 일본에 갔던 보이그룹 JYJ의 멤버인 김준수도 토요일 아침 귀국했다

김씨는 기획사는 “김준수는 토요일 안전하게 귀국했으며 팬을 위한 특별행사에도 참석했다”고 밝혔다. 김씨는 금요일 트위터에 “오늘 떨림을 느꼈는데 전에 결코 느껴 본 적이 없는 것이었다”고 말했다.

두 걸 그룹 카라와 2NE1도 이날 서울로 돌아왔다.

카라의 기획사는 “처음에는 전화 연결이 안됐으나 스마트폰 메신저 서비스인 카카오토크로 그들이 안전하다는 것을 확인할 수 있었다”고 말했다. 이들 5명의 가수는 토요일 귀국 전 금요일 일본 TV 시리즈 촬영을 마쳤다.

2NE1가 금요일 등장하기로 돼 있는 일본 TV 음악프로는 취소됐다. CL은 토요일 아침 돌아왔으며 다른 3명의 멤버가 이 날 늦게 뒤따라 왔다.

TV 시리즈“내 여자 친구는 구미호”를 위해 일본을 여행 중인 탤런트 신민아는 안전한 것으로 확인됐으며 귀국을 서두르고 있는 것으로 알려졌다.

일본에서 콘서트를 열기로 돼 있는 재즈밴드 윈터플레이는 현재 히로시마에 있는데 트위터로 안전함을 확인해 주었다.

TV 드라마 “장난스런 키스”를 위해 일요일 일본으로 떠나기로 돼 있는 가수 겸 배우인 김현준은 계획을 취소했으며 영화배우 장근석은 3월 27일 도쿄에서 20,000여명의 팬을 만날 수 있을 지 불분명하다.
