Sungjin of K-pop rock band DAY6 will make his debut as a baseball commentator during the upcoming 2025 Shinhan SOL Bank KBO All-Star Game, according to SPOTV on Wednesday.
The game is set for Saturday and will be broadcast live on SPOTV and SPOTV2 starting at 5:30 p.m.
A native of Busan and a self-proclaimed diehard fan of the Lotte Giants, Sungjin expressed his excitement. “I’m truly grateful to be invited to the All-Star Game, a festival for baseball lovers. As a fan of the sport, I’ll just enjoy it to the fullest," he said.
Asked how his fellow DAY6 members reacted to the news, Sungjin joked, “They don’t know yet, but when they find out, I think Wonpil might be the most jealous.”
This marks the second year in a row Sungjin is participating in the All-Star festivities. Last year, he and his bandmates performed a special “Cleaning Time Show” during the game. This year, he returns in the broadcast booth, cementing his place as an All-Star Game regular.
“I’m not sure why I keep getting invited,” he said. “But I’m honored just to be able to do something I love, and if they call me again next year, I’ll be back. I’ll bring something you can’t get from traditional commentators: pure, unfiltered Busan dialect.”
Sungjin’s beloved Lotte Giants are currently in third place in the league standings as of Tuesday. Five Giants players — Kim Won-jung, Jeon Jun-woo, Park Se-woong, Jeon Min-jae and Victor Reyes — have been selected to play in the All-Star Game.
“The team is doing well this season, which makes watching baseball even more fun,” Sungjin said. “Since so many players I feel connected to will be on the field, I think I’ll be a little less nervous. Let’s go, Lotte!”
