Seventeen's S.Coups receives military service exemption after knee surgery

S.Coups of K-pop group Seventeen has been granted an exemption from military service after undergoing two surgeries for a torn cruciate ligament, the group's agency said Friday.
The 28-year-old underwent reconstructive surgeries for anterior cruciate ligament and lateral collateral ligament tears he sustained last August while filming, Pledis Entertainment said.
He has been undergoing rehabilitation therapy since then.
As a result, he has been classified as Grade 5 under Korea's Military Service Act, meaning he is exempt from active duty but still has to participate in civil defense training during peacetime.
S.Coups has been taking a break from group activities due to the injury, not participating in promotional work for the group's latest album, "Seventeenth Heaven," or performing during its Japan tour.
He also missed appearances in the tvN show "NANA TOUR with SEVENTEEN."
S.Coups is expected to return to full activities soon. The agency said last month that medical assessments found that he will be able to resume scheduled activities without undue strain on his body.
Following his recovery, S.Coups is slated to rejoin Seventeen for the group's comeback in April.
Before the anticipated comeback, the group will hold a concert at the Incheon Asiad Main Stadium from March 30 to 31, with S.Coups expected to participate.
