NCT's vocalist Haechan has announced a temporary suspension to all upcoming activities due to severe symptoms caused by tonsillitis.

His agency, SM Entertainment, disclosed on the online fan community Weverse, Tuesday, that Haechan experienced symptoms of fatigue and high fever during his schedule in Japan earlier this month.

"Upon returning to Korea on Monday, Haechan promptly sought medical attention," the agency explained. "The medical team recommended him to take sufficient rest and maintain stability due to the severity of his tonsillitis."

SM further revealed the singer's intention to take a break to facilitate a speedy recovery.

"Haechan will not be able to attend the Circle Chart Music Awards 2023 scheduled for Jan. 10. Whether he will participate in future events will be determined based on his recovery status," the agency noted.

Apologizing for any concerns caused to the fans, the agency ensured that they would do their best to assist Haechan's speedy return.

Due to his sickness, Haechan was unable to participate in the "NCT 127 2ND TOUR 'NEO CITY: JAPAN - THE LINK" held at Vantelin Dome Nagoya, Japan, on Jan. 7 and 8.

As the number of K-pop idols announcing temporary suspensions in their activities due to health-related issues increases, a call for more careful management of both the physical and mental health of artists has been increasing in the K-pop scene.

Last year, ITZY's member Lia temporarily halted her activities in September citing mental health issues. In October, Kim Chae-won of Le Sserafim suspended her activities due to health reasons and resumed after a month. In December, (G)I-DLE's Minnie and Shuhua declared a halt to all of their activities due to poor health.
