Brother-sister duo Akdong Musician (AKMU) has reigned atop the Melon daily chart, the biggest music streaming service in Korea, for 53 consecutive days with its August release, "Love Lee." This is the longest record among all songs released this year.
According to AKMU's management company, YG Entertainment, Sunday, "Love Lee" dominated the chart from Sept. 5 to Oct. 28, demonstrating its lasting popularity. The tune has also grabbed the No. 1 spot on Melon's real-time chart as of Sunday afternoon.
"AKMU's latest achievement proves the power of the duo's unique music," YG said in a statement.
"Love Lee" is the combination of the word, "lovely" and the siblings' last name, "Lee." It is a funky and bubbly song fusing acoustic sounds and drums.
"We wanted to try something fresh before we get too old," member Lee Chan-hyuk said during a press event in Seoul in August.
AKMU joined YG after ranking first on SBS' audition program, "KPOPSTAR Season 2" in 2012. Since its debut in 2014, it has put out a series of hits including "200%" (2014) and "Give Love" (2014).
The duo is scheduled to embark on the "AMKUTOPIA" tour, Nov. 24. It plans to perform in major Korean cities including Seoul, Busan and Daegu.
