DAY6 (Even of Day) goes retro with new release 'Right Through Me'

Jumping on the retro bandwagon, DAY6 (Even of Day) ― a sub-unit of boy band DAY6 ― is set to bring back the 1990s vibes with its new release “Right Through Me,” the lead track off its self-titled mini-album.
Asked why the trio ― Young K, Wonpil and Dowoon ― decided to incorporate the sound of Korean ballads of the 1990s with the rhythms of East Coast hip-hop, keyboardist/synthesizer Wonpil, who took part in composing the song with Young K, said they wanted to give a vintage feel to the song.
“The music of the 90s has a unique edge and feel that distinguish itself from the sound of today,” he said during an online press conference on Monday, which was held a few hours before the album release. “It can also evoke nostalgia for listeners… I thought these elements would add a vintage feel to our track.”
According to drummer Dowoon, “Right Through Me” is an album about the array of emotions that go straight to people's hearts.
Vocalist and guitarist Young K elaborated, “Something that looks trivial can still pierce a person's heart and demolish them.”
He added he is playing an electric guitar now ― previously having played bass guitar ― and that the size of the band's sound has grown bigger.
Also included in the album are six side tracks including “Walk” and “Love Parade.”
“As we have always been, we sing about different moments in our lives,” Wonpil said. “We also want to bring hope to our listeners... Even if we sing a sad song, we still believe we can give comfort and arouse sympathy for them like their friends in real life.”
Wonpil and Young K also talked about how they worked together.
“We talked a lot while gearing up for the album,” Young K said. “Sometimes we drank together and shared our stories. In fact, I deeply trust Wonpil because of his great sense of musicality.”
Wonpil said, “Even if I just mumble a few words, Young K can still put them together and change them into cool lyrics. I think this is our synergy… In addition, the process of making an album was very entertaining as we were free to do whatever we wanted. I am satisfied with its quality, too.”
Wrapping up the session, the members said they hope the COVID-19 pandemic would soon come to an end, so that they could perform in front of their fans around the world.
“Concerts are one of the most crucial things for us, which connect us to our fans,” Young K added. “So we have been musing about the ways to stay together with our followers amid these tough times.”
