K-pop trio SSAK3 has donated 100 million won ($91,000) to support children in need, according to the Korean Committee for UNICEF, Monday.

The charity organization said the money ― which is part of SSK3's earnings from streaming services and other sources ― will be used to provide food and care for children under five who are suffering from malnutrition.

“After thinking about ways to repay the love we received in 2020, all members agreed to use our profits to save the lives of children,” member Rain was quoted as saying. “We hope all kids on earth become healthier and happier in 2021.”

Lee Ki-cheol, the secretary general of UNICEF's Korean committee, said, “We are truly thankful for the SSAK3 members and MBC's production team for supporting children in need. The COVID-19 pandemic has deteriorated the nutritional status of a great number of children around the world, threatening the lives of millions of kids under five. In 2021, we will also strive to help them.”

UNICEF warned in July that an additional 6.7 million children in that age group could become dangerously undernourished as a result of the global health crisis.

SSAK3, consisting of comedian Yoo Jae-suk, singer Lee Hyo-ri and singer-actor Rain, was formed as a one-off group on MBC's reality show “Hangout with Yoo” in July. The three basked in immense popularity thanks to the group's retro vibe and its song “Summer Sea Again” climbed up music streaming charts after its release on July 25.
