Jenny, a member of K-pop girl band DIA, has left the group due to a knee injury that will a take long time to recover, her agency MBK Entertainment said Saturday.
“Jenny was diagnosed with chondromalacia patellae (CMP),” the agency wrote on the group's online fan website. “Her condition has improved following the treatment, but her doctor said it would be hard for her to continue her career.”
CMP, also known as “runner's knee” is a condition where the cartilage on the undersurface of the patella deteriorates and softens. The agency did not explain how the singer, 22, got the degenerative condition.
The agency said Jenny had agreed to suspend her career to concentrate on treatment and recovery.
In a farewell letter to her fans, she said, “Words from my fans have supported me. I am also thankful to the members and the company.”
Jenny debuted as a member of DIA in 2015 with the album “Do It Amazing.”
