ARMY, the followers of K-pop titan BTS, have been infuriated by a Korean report that leaked the private life of singer Jungkook.
The seven-piece band's vocalist recently bought a 69-square-meter residence in Seongsu-dong, Seoul, for over 1.9 billion won ($1.69 million), according to the report on Monday. But it disclosed specific details such as the residence's floor number, sparking controversy that it infringed the star's privacy.
Several ARMY members said the information could be abused by “Sasaeng” fans, the obsessive group of followers who chase celebrities to the degree that it offends and threatens them. Stalking is one of the most common offences committed by this group.
A fan said in an online community: “Did the report reveal personal information like this so that 'Sasaeng' fans could beleaguer Jungkook?”
In the wake of the fuss, the sensitive information was deleted from the original article, but fans are still concerned because the initial content circulated among dozens of online users.
Meanwhile, BTS has been tuning up for its comeback, although details have not yet been finalized.
