Project boy band “Wanna One” released its second album “1-1=0 (Nothing Without You),” Monday, just three months after the band’s first album “1+1=1 (To Be One)” was released.
The new album’s main track “Beautiful” instantly topped all major music streaming service charts online including Melon, Bugs, Mnet and Naver. The group’s comeback show was broadcast live on Mnet and tvN.
The band members introduced their new album and new songs as their reward for their fan’s support and love.
“Our goal for the new album’s activity is to repay our fans for the love they gave us throughout the year,” said the member Hwang Min-hyun during the press conference at CGV Yongsan in Seoul.
“As our fans gave us the opportunity to act as the band Wanna One, we want to play good music for them in return,” added Kang Daniel Kang.
The band prepared two different versions of music videos for the title song and member Yoon Ji-sung said they wanted to show various sides of the members as their promotional period is short.
Wanna One’s new album consists of 11 tracks with four new songs, such as “I Want to Have You,” “Twilight” and “Nothing Without You.”
Producer Tenzo wrote the song with a ballad-like melody and lyrics reminiscing fear in the past as a loner and longing for beautiful things.
The other seven tracks include re-arranged versions of former hit songs like “Burn it Up” and “Energetic.”
“The new album contains the story of Wanna One before our debut. Everybody feels insecure and distressed about an uncertain future alone but we can become beautiful as one,” said Hwang.
“If we showed our spirit and passion as a rookie band through our debut album, we delivered a message of our desires for the future,” added the singer.
The eleven-member act debuted through the popular idol audition TV series “Produce 101: Season 2” in April. The top 11 formed the project band with the name of Wanna One under the management of YMC Entertainment and CJ E&M and debuted on August 7. The band is only contracted for a year and a half and their promotion ends in December next year.
It has only been three months since Wanna One appeared on the K-pop scene but the boy band’s popularity is explosive across the nation. The band’s first album sold 733,000 copies in October alone, according to the Gaon Charts.
“We feel we are receiving more love every time. We were able to debut as Wanna One because of our fans and we released a new album. We are very happy,” said member Ong Seong-wu.
The most popular member, Kang, also expressed his gratitude about his recent coverage of a newsweekly for causing a sensation in the local music industry.
“I did not know I was on the cover of the news magazine until fans sent me a copy to the company. I was very honored,” said Kang.
He encouraged undiscovered idol trainees to keep up with their hard work and told them one day it will pay off.
Meanwhile, the K-pop band staged a “Jumper Day Campaign” hosted by the international relief organization “Save the Children” to raise funds on the same day.
“We thought about how to repay all the love we received and came up with joining the charity. Please participate in the event with us,” said member Lee Dae-hwi.
