Belgian duo 2 Many DJs is coming to liven up Seoul's party scene next week.
Music label Locksmith by Shyoshyo Type is launching its first concert, ``Locksmith Adventure,'' featuring 2 Many DJs as the headliners on Jan. 29 at Melon-AX Hall. Other performers include actor-singer Lee Min-ki, Japanese electro group 80kidz, electronica muse Sheean and Locksmith Music Crew.
The duo is a DJ unit composed of David and Stephen Dewaele, who are also known as the alternative rock/electronica band Soulwax. Originally from Ghent, Belgium, the Dewaele brothers have led the way in electronic music since they debuted 10 years ago. They are also one of the hottest headliners in the international music festival circuit.
As Soulwax, the Dewaele brothers have come out with remixed covers of electronica acts such as MGMT, The Chemical Brothers and The Prodigy to the music of Beethoven to dance tracks by Kylie Minogue and Madonna to rock songs by Nirvana and The Clash.
The Dewaele brothers formed 2 Many DJs because they wanted to continue playing music throughout the night as DJs after their concerts.
``With the newest technical equipment, mixing not only stays in music but also embraces multimedia art. This 2 Many DJs concert features variety of numbers from Nirvana, David Bowie, Blur, Justice, Sonic Youth, MGMT as well as reworked record images with animation and other twists, bringing them to life on stage,'' organizers said in a statement.
Also getting attention is Lee, a model-turned-actor who recently released his debut solo album, ``No Kidding.'' Lee has appeared in several Korean dramas and the blockbuster film ``Haeundae.'' As a singer, Lee is interested in new wave, rock and electronic music, and has been inspired by Soulwax's live performances.
Japanese electro unit 80kidz has been gaining fans after their performance in Busan last August. The group, composed of members who were all born in the 1980s, first became known for their debut mix CD ``The Kidz Are Alright.''
The ``Locksmith Adventure'' concert has been billed as a new kind of concert experience for Seoulites.
``Locksmith Adventure serves as a message saying that with a little bit of courage, money, time and an open-minded attitude, we can change our world into more than a fascinating world. Locksmith Adventure ultimately aims to provide experience. Music is located at the core of this experience, and this experience deals with artwork and message, fashion, lifestyle and a new way of communication,'' organizers said.
