"YADANG: The Snitch" is a crime thriller that delves into the shadowy side of "yadang," a Korean slang term for informants who provide information about drug dealers and buyers to the police or law enforcement authorities.

The film plunges viewers into the murky depths of Korea's drug trade as it follows the intertwined stories of Lee Kang-su (Kang Ha-neul), a yadang who has a name in Korea's drug scene, Koo Kwan-hee (Yoo Hae-jin), a prosecutor seeking to climb the ladder using Lee's information, and Oh Sang-jae (Park Hae-joon), a detective determined to crack down on drug crimes.

The film follows the successful formula of Korean crime thrillers like "Inside Men" (2015) and "The Unjust" (2010), skillfully weaving in elements from real-life news stories about the collusion between crime syndicates and powerful figures.

While using familiar elements found in crime thrillers, “YADANG: The Snitch” adds stylish visuals, exciting action, and a well-crafted plot that keeps the tension high throughout.

At the center of the gripping story are the outstanding performances of the leading trio. Kang, who gained international recognition through his role in "Squid Game" Season 2, shines as the yadang — a snitch who sells information on drug dealers to law enforcement.

Kang skillfully balances Lee’s cunning with his inner vulnerability to create a compelling character. He portrays Kang-su’s transformation from an ordinary man caught in a web of drug-related crime to a key player in the high-stakes drug game.

Yoo delivers a charismatic yet chilling performance as the ambitious prosecutor Koo, a man consumed by ambition. With his impressive acting range, he offers a captivating portrayal of someone driven by an insatiable thirst for power.

Through the character who willingly bends the rules and crosses ethical boundaries to achieve his goal, he crafted a magnetic character. Also, his chemistry with Kang is electric, creating a tense dynamic that keeps the audience on the edge of their seats.

Park portrays a tenacious detective determined to dismantle the drug network. The actor, who recently showed his heartwarming side through Yang Gwan-sik in the Netflix series “When Life Gives You Tangerines,” brings a raw intensity and unwavering determination to this movie. This time, he brilliantly embodies the frustration and righteous anger of a cop fighting against a corrupt system.

The film’s exploration of yadang offers a fresh perspective on the world of secret informants. However, the film is not without its flaws. The excessive violence and occasional cliched scenes may cause some viewers to wince.

Despite these shortcomings, "YADANG: The Snitch" ultimately succeeds in delivering a thrilling and entertaining cinematic experience. The film's fast-paced narrative, combined with the cast's outstanding performances, makes it a must-see for fans of the crime-action genre.

"YADANG: The Snitch" will hit local theaters on April 16.
