The 2014 action thriller, “A Hard Day,” has been adapted into a webtoon series of the same title with a twist.

A total of 13 episodes, along with a prologue, were unveiled on e-book and webcomic provider Ridi, Saturday.

Starring Lee Sun-kyun and Cho Jin-woong, the original film follows a corrupt detective named Ko Gun-su, who crashes into a man in a fatal hit-and-run on the day of his mother's funeral. In a hasty attempt to cover up his crime, he decides to place the corpse in his car trunk and later does the unthinkable: he hides it inside his own mother's coffin. Just when he thought everything was over, a threatening phone call begins to haunt him.

“A Hard Day” surpassed 3.45 million ticket sales at box offices during the year of its release. The movie was also invited to compete in the Directors' Fortnight section of the?2014 Cannes Film Festival.

While its webtoon adaptation centers on the same action-packed, suspenseful narrative, the protagonist, Ko, has been made into a gritty female detective.

“(The webtoon series) is fun to read in its own way that is different from the original movie!” one reviewer commented.

“It's interesting to see how the webcomics reinterpreted the protagonist as a female character,” another wrote.

With its release, “A Hard Day” became one of the latest examples of films and dramas that have been newly adapted into the webtoon series. Others include “Extraordinary Attorney Woo” and “Svaha: The Sixth Finger,” both of which were unveiled this summer.
