K-pop duo Bolbbalgan4 is unlike any conventional K-pop girl group in that they don't show off edgy group choreography or entice fans with scantily clad outfits or sensual music videos.
Yet the contenders from the 2011 TV competition show “Superstar K” on Mnet are unbeatable in the country's online music streaming markets ― seven of their hits have each recorded over 100 million hits. The figure tallied counts from websites offering music-streaming services, including Naver, Melon and Genie.
The feat was mentioned on K-pop variety show “Idol Room” on JTBC Tuesday, where the SHOFAR Music artists appeared as guests.
Ahn Ji-young, the band's face and main vocalist, said that of the seven hits, “
” from the 2016 album “Red Planet” is most precious because it hoisted the band to stardom. She picked the 2018 hit single “
” as her second favorite.
The other group member is guitarist Woo Ji-yoon.
The band's record is followed by female vocalist IU, who has five songs with the 100 million streaming hits honor.
Bolbbalgan4 released its latest number “
” earlier this month.
