Korean virtual asset exchange Coinone said Monday that it would adopt a co-CEO system by appointing the company's Chief Operating Officer Lee Seong-hyun as Co-CEO.

Lee is a seasoned expert in financial and fintech strategy. He earned a degree in business from Seoul National University and later obtained an MBA from New York University's Stern School of Business. Over his career, he has worked with leading companies such as Citibank, Stern Value Management, Deloitte Consulting, Bain & Company, Dunamu and Yanolja. He joined Coinone as COO in January.

Coinone stated that adopting a co-CEO leadership structure is intended to enhance its competitiveness and adapt to the rapidly evolving virtual asset market. The company aims to leverage the expertise of each co-CEO while establishing a more structured decision-making process.

Lee will oversee the organization's overall operations, including management, development, product and finance. Meanwhile, the current CEO Cha Myung-hun will focus on enhancing products and services while managing public relations and government affairs.

"We have submitted a change report regarding the co-CEO appointment to the Financial Intelligence Unit and are currently awaiting approval. Once the report is accepted, we will officially implement the co-CEO system," a Coinone spokesperson said.
