Prime Minister Han Duck-soo has emphasized the stability of Korea's economic system despite its ongoing political turmoil stemming from a short-lived martial law imposition.
"Korea's economic system has remained steadfast amid recent changes in the domestic political environment," Han said during a meeting hosted by the Korean-German Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the French Korean Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Seoul on Wednesday, according to his office.
"Government ministries, including the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, are working closely with financial institutions to ensure a stable environment for foreign investment and domestic economic activities," he was quoted as telling the meeting.
Han requested foreign investors and businesses to continue their business as usual with confidence in Korea's economic fundamentals, while also calling for their support for Asia's fourth-largest economy.
His comments are in line with the South Korean government's efforts to minimize the economic impact of President Yoon Suk Yeol's botched martial law attempt last week. The government is actively communicating with foreign governments and media outlets to achieve this goal, Finance Minister Choi Sang-mok said Thursday.
David-Pierre Jalicon, chairman of the French chamber, said the French business community in South Korea is doing well after a meeting with Seoul's finance and industry ministers last week.
German chamber chairperson Park Hyun-nam also said German investors and business people here have been reassured by Prime Minister Han's messages. (Yonhap)
