Kwangdong Pharmaceutical’s beverage product won the water footprint certification from Korea’s Ministry of Environment.
The ministry certified 10 products on Oct. 25., including “Vita500,” Kwangdong’s beverage product containing 500 milligrams of Vitamin C.
The water footprint is an environmental indicator which estimates the amount of water consumed by the product over the course of its lifecycle, from production through use, and disposal.
The ministry introduced the system this year as part of its efforts to preserve the environment.
Kwangdong expects it would allow them to gauge and better manage the amount of water consumed in producing the beverage. It will also allow consumers to easily understand its environmental impact.
“The certification is all the more meaningful as the company has strived to preserve the environment,” the company said through its press release. “We will continue with our eco-friendly efforts to protect the consumers’ right to information, preserve natural resources, and reduce carbon dioxide emissions.”
