Samsung Life holds 'retirement' forum

Samsung Life Insurance is offering special programs during the 20th World Congress of the International Association of Gerontology and Geriatrics (IAGG), which began on Sunday and will last for five days.
It is the world’s largest event of its kind where leading gerontologists, geriatrics scholars, policy decision-makers, professional activists, related companies, and researchers get together and share recent discoveries and study results.
The IAGG is an international academic organization with over 45,000 members worldwide and holds the congress every four years. It also works as a UN consultant.
As an official sponsor of the event this year, Samsung Life Insurance is also hosting a conference, workshop and exhibition on the aging process to help people prepare for life after retirement.
The insurer Monday hosted the first workshop on the issue of healthy life where experts discussed ways to improve the quality of life for the elderly and in the second session on the following day, they will talk about balanced planning for life when retired.
The insurer is also running an exhibition titled “Samsung Life Insurance Retirement Exhibition” through June 27, which aims to help visitors imagine what their retirement life will be like. The exhibition is also accompanied by various performances by groups of elderly and young people.
The company will also run the Life Design Academy on June 25 and 26, a lecture program for those in their 40s and 50s who face retirement.
It will also hold a conference on June 25 to discuss the issue of employment after retirement under the title, “Encore Life, Encore Career.”
Eight experts from Korea, the U.S. and Britain will share their experience and knowledge on career development after retirement. They are representatives from the three countries’ organizations - Samsung Life Retirement Research Center, Encore.org in the U.S. and Age UK.
The conference will be followed by a round-table talk the following day with panels from the three countries exchanging ideas and experiences on working after retirement.
“We made a lot of effort to organize quality programs to meet the standard of the renowned IAGG congress,” said Park Ki-chool, director of Samsung Life Retirement Research Center. “We hope people can get useful and valuable information that is needed for them to prepare for life after retirement in our programs.”
Meanwhile, the nation’s largest insurance firm will sign a memorandum of understanding with Age UK on June 27 for cooperation in business related to retirement. The signing ceremony will be joined by Age UK CEO Tom Wright, the firm’s research director James Goodwin and Samsung Life Insurance Vice-chairman Park Geun-hee.
