LG CNS is joining hands with the global automotive solution company Honeywell to target the artificial intelligence (AI)-based manufacturing industry in the United States, becoming Honeywell’s first official Korean partner for AI and IT services.

The company announced Monday that its CEO Hyun Shin-gyoon recently met with Honeywell Process Solutions President Pramesh Maheshwari in Texas to sign an agreement to jointly develop manufacturing AI technologies, including AI-based factory automation and intelligence solutions.

“The key to this partnership is that it combines LG CNS’s outstanding AI transformation (AX) consulting and service implementation capabilities and Honeywell’s yearslong know-how on manufacturing systems in the field of sensors and control devices,” LG CNS said in a press release.

The company’s problem-solving AI agent is capable of analyzing production facility data in real time, collected by Honeywell’s distributed control system at its customers’ manufacturing plants. This way, if a problem occurs, it can immediately identify the cause and suggest a solution.

The two companies are also planning to build a platform for manufacturing AX that will help advance the entire production process.

Initially, they will collaborate to develop a manufacturing execution system (MES) that can be adopted across various sectors such as semiconductors, batteries and petrochemicals. MES serves as a core system for manufacturers, managing equipment, processes and personnel at production sites in real time to optimize production.

LG CNS plans to apply its AI technology to all production processes, including production planning, work order management, materials logistics and quality assurance, to build an integrated MES that manages all stages with a single system.

“This cooperation is the first step in joint efforts to seek technical solutions for business innovation for U.S. manufacturing clients,” Hyun said.

“LG CNS will utilize its best-in-class AI and smart factory capabilities, accumulated over a long period, to provide customers with differentiated manufacturing AX solutions.”

In addition, the two companies plan to discover new manufacturing AX business opportunities based on successful production and logistics cases from LG CNS’s AI 100 in 100 Program with Korean clients. The program aims to develop 100 generative AI services within 100 days to help corporate clients struggling to adapt due to technology, cost and time concerns.

Leveraging Honeywell’s network of more than 100 major clients, the two companies aim to expand their manufacturing AX technology into the global market, including the U.S. and Europe.
