Samsung Electronics will debut its Galaxy Ring, which is a wearable device, at the upcoming Mobile World Congress (MWC) tech show in Barcelona, targeting the health care management market, which is based on AI technology, the company said Sunday.
At the exhibition, which runs from Monday to Thursday, Samsung also plans to showcase innovative technology for the AI era by allowing visitors to experience various key AI features of Galaxy mobile devices.
The Galaxy Ring was first unveiled with a teaser image at the Galaxy Unpacked event held in the U.S. in January.
Samsung said that users will be able to comfortably wear the device even during sleep, and measure detailed health data by wearing the ring. The company added that this new wearable device is scheduled to be released within this year.
The product is expected to be released in nine sizes and in three colors including black, gold and silver.

At the MWC event, Samsung will also introduce intelligent health functions to be released in the future for the first time. Through new health functions such as My Vitality Score, which provides personalized health guides to users based on various data such as sleep and heart rate, and Booster Cards, which encourage users to set health-related goals, Samsung plans to provide an optimal customized health experience for users.
Samsung is showing its focus on products for intelligent health care management with integrated AI technology as a future growth engine. The company has also been releasing additional health care market products, including the recent unveiling of its smart band product, the Galaxy Fit 3.
"We are already planning the next steps for Galaxy AI beyond smartphones — optimizing it for various categories of devices across various services," Roh Tae-moon, president and head of mobile experience business at Samsung, wrote on the company's newsroom website, Feb. 21.
"In the near future, select Galaxy wearables will use AI to enhance digital health and unlock a whole new era of expanded, intelligent health experiences. Samsung will keep enriching and expanding Galaxy AI experiences across categories through collaborations with more industry-leading AI partners,” the president added.
