Samsung Display is expanding its talent nurturing program, which has been operating with three universities, to include five more universities, in order to extend its leadership in the global display industry, the display maker said Tuesday.
The company said it signed an agreement with Yonsei University for what it calls a Display Track talent development program linked to job placement on Monday. The company added it plans to sign agreements with Korea University, Sogang University, Sungkyunkwan University and Hanyang University by Feb. 6 to expand the number of the schools to eight.
Samsung Display has been operating this program since 2019 with Seoul National University, Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), and Pohang University of Science and Technology (POSTECH).
The Display Track program operates a display education curriculum at each university, selects outstanding talent, offers scholarships and guarantees employment after graduation.
"We plan to select about 70 talented students from a total of eight universities each year and nurture them as display experts," the company said.
Samsung Display has been actively securing talent to strengthen future competitiveness and technological leadership in the intensely competitive global display industry.
"As the technological competition in the display field becomes increasingly fierce, it is more important than ever for our companies to nurture and secure specialized talents in order to maintain competitiveness," Lee Jong-hyuk, head of large display business unit of Samsung Display, said.
"This collaboration with Yonsei University, which has a global quality research system, will be an opportunity to enhance the company's global competitiveness and expand the base of the country’s display industry,” he added.
