IBM launched Watsonx.governance, a solution to help enterprises enhance transparency and comply with policies in the development and operation of services based on generative AI, its Korean unit said, Thursday.

IBM Korea said the solution is designed to support its enterprise customers in using generative AI in a safe, transparent and regulatory-compliant manner.

"Generative AI technology is advancing rapidly, but at the same time, the risks of AI are also growing," Kim Hyun-jung, managing partner of IBM Consulting Korea, said during a press conference held at IBM Korea’s headquarters in Seoul.

Kim said that companies aiming to develop AI services face challenges such as data leaks, trust and bias issues with AI models and government regulations being enacted around the world, and that this solution can help to solve these issues more smoothly.

"In order for businesses to overcome these concerns and successfully utilize AI in business, AI governance should be considered from the beginning of the introduction of AI service," she said.

Lee Ji-eun, CTO of IBM Korea, described IBM's Watsonx.governance as a "one-stop solution for companies struggling to deploy and manage various types of large language models (LLMs) and machine learning models."

"This solution provides the tools needed for a company to automate, monitor and take corrective actions on various AI model governance processes,” Lee said. "The capabilities of Watsonx.governance to help increase trust and transparency will be more essential than ever for businesses in a situation where regulations on AI governance are increasing from governments, including Korea."

IBM explained how Watsonx.governance is used effectively by providing an example of an insurance company that utilizes both AI and the solution.

A global insurance company introduced AI to automatically support insurance processing for car accidents. When a customer provides photos of a car accident, the AI explains the situation and drafts a preliminary report. The company refines this and with a click, and the data is recorded automatically as an accident report.

Watsonx.governance manages this entire process, monitors customer claims and detects fraud. It also controls whether the AI model is giving repeated answers and evaluates for harmful speech, IBM said.
