KT formed an alliance with domestic security solution companies and launched KT Secure, an advanced email blocking service based on advanced persistent threat (APT) analysis technology, using AI to offer an effective defense against increasingly sophisticated email hacking attempts, the company said Wednesday.

KT said it formed the alliance with Jiransecurity, Network & Security, AhnLab and SecuLetter, which specialize in technologies for spam blocking and APT-related security.

“The Secure email blocking service consists of a spam security service that blocks malicious emails and advertisements, a sandbox analysis that detects APT threats and an AI analysis platform that detects threats using AI,” the company said.

The spam security service is developed based on technologies of Jiransecurity and Network & Security, while the APT security applied the latest technologies of AhnLab and SecuLetter. The AI analysis technology applies KT's AI analysis and detection model to effectively defend against various types of new and variant email attacks.

KT said that the core of the service, which is aimed at enterprise customers, is its database that utilizes more than 100 million emails per year, which the company has obtained through its AI analytics platform.

The company has been constantly updating the database to threats against new or variants of APT attacks, averaging about 10 per day, so that the service can effectively defend against email hacking attacks.

The service is offered on a subscription basis and can be used by changing domain name system settings, which reduces the cost burden of the expensive security equipment system. To encourage more customers to use the service, the company is offering a one-month free trial until the end of this year.

With the formation of the alliance, KT said it will expand its reach in the domestic cybersecurity market.

“Establishing the security alliance is a meaningful attempt of contributing to the development of the local security service ecosystem and the creation of a safe corporate security environment,” Baek Seung-taek, head of KT's data infrastructure DX business, said. “KT will apply AI technology not only to APT solutions, but also to various local security solutions such as endpoint detection and response, network security equipment and cloud security.”
