An LG Innotek executive won an Industrial Service Medal given by the government for promoting exports of optical components, the company said Monday.
The LG Group affiliate said Moon Hyuk-soo, senior vice president and head of the Optics Solution Business Unit of the company, won the medal during Trade Day.
The Trade Day ceremony is an annual event hosted by the Korea International Trade Association (KITA) to recognize people for their work in promoting trade and boosting Korea's exports.
During Monday's ceremony, Moon won the medal for his contributions to improving the competitiveness of Korea's optical components industry, LG Innotek said.
Moon joined LG Innotek in 2009. Since 2010, he has led technological innovations of the company's optical components as the head of the product development and research team. With his efforts, the company was able to become a global leader for camera modules and 3D sensing modules.
LG Innotek said the executive especially helped the company solidify its leadership in camera modules for smartphones by applying innovative technologies.
“In 2010, the company introduced a camera module with an optical image stabilizer (OIS) function, and in 2016, a dual front camera module was introduced for the first time in the industry. In 2020, the company succeeded in mass production of the industry's first triple camera module with sensor shift correction function,” LG Innotek said.
In addition, Moon fostered the 3D sensing module business, which is a next-generation cash cow of the company, and developed it into a global No. 1 business. LG Innotek succeeded in mass production of 3D sensing modules for smartphones for the first time in 2017, and continues to introduce new products to lead the market.
The senior vice president has also focused on innovations in manufacturing processes by introducing an automated logistics system and remote control of facilities.
“I am very pleased to be recognized for the business performance and competitiveness of LG Innotek's Optics Solution Business Unit,” the executive said. “Our business unit will focus on introducing ultra-precision, ultra-slim and high-performance products that can impress consumers with innovative technologies.”
