LG Display renews panel patent license with SEL

LG Display said it renewed a patent license contract with the Japanese tech company, Semiconductor Energy Laboratory (SEL), the panel-manufacturing arm of LG Group said Tuesday.
“We recently entered into a patent license agreement with Semiconductor Energy Laboratory, renewing the license to SEL's patent portfolio on display technology,” a company official said.
Established in 1980, SEL specializes in research and development and is headquartered in Atsugi, Japan. SEL started off by researching and developing solar batteries and branched out to oxide semiconductors in 2008.
SEL has researched and developed transistors and semiconductor devices, materials and devices for OLEDs, LCDs and batteries. LG Display said SEL's patent portfolio on display technology includes crystalline oxide semiconductor, OLED and LCD technologies.
LG Display is a leading global innovator of display technologies such as thin-film transistor liquid crystal (TFT-LCD) and OLED displays. The company manufactures display panels in a broad range of sizes and specifications primarily for use in TVs, notebook computers, desktop monitors and other applications, including tablets and mobile devices.
LG Display recently received global gaming certifications with its OLED TV display lineups, becoming the first display company simultaneously to receive both the Qualified Superior Gaming Performance certification from the British certification company, Intertek, as well as the High Gaming Performance Gold certification from the German inspection service, TUV Rheinland.
