Qorvo seeks to sell chips for Korea's Wi-Fi networks

Qorvo, a U.S.-based radio frequency (RF) technology firm, said it will tap into the Korean market with its distributed Wi-Fi networks service.
With the proliferation of the internet of things (IoT), Qorvo said future home appliances will have more Wi-Fi network routers compared to current home networks that usually have only one to enable consumers to fully utilize the frequency band.
“In the future, you will be able to talk to the router in every room. All devices in all rooms will connect to the main router of your home. It is going to make a major difference in the future,” Cees Links, general manager of Qorvo, told reporters at a press conference in Seoul, Thursday.
Also known as Wi-Fi mesh, distributed Wi-Fi networks use multiple routers to spread Wi-Fi signals throughout the home. With its 802.11ax Wi-Fi products, Links said the company will enable consumers to fully utilize the frequency band while consuming low power.
“In the future, all devices will be taken together. We built the components to make these realities. Our vision is to enable many companies think what kind of services do they want to bring to the market. Whether it's firm services or home services, we bring the components, modules, chips and software to create the systems together,” Links said.
Links is known as a pioneer of Wi-Fi as he launched the world's first wireless local area network product in 1990. Qorvo was created by the merger of TriQuint Semiconductor and RF Micro Devices in 2015. In 2016, it also acquired the Dutch firm GreenPeak Technologies which Links founded. The U.S. company has sold embedded semiconductor chips including bulk acoustic wave (BAW) filter, surface acoustic wave (SAW) filter, Gallium Nitride (GaN) RF chip and RF front-end module (FEM).
Links said Korea is a relevant leader in the information technology world and a main entry point into the consumer market.
