Samsung extends Olympic commitment by supplying exclusive phones

Samsung Electronics extended its Olympic legacy of supporting athletes by delivering over 4,000 exclusive smartphones to all Olympians participating in the PyeongChang 2018 Olympic Games.
As well as athletes, the company also offered the PyeongChang 2018 Olympic Games Limited Edition to staff of International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the PyeongChang Organizing Committee for the 2018 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games (POCOG).
Samsung is the worldwide Olympic partner for wireless communications equipment and computing equipment.
The company said the exclusive devices are a special edition of the Galaxy Note8, noting the delivery of such phones will encourage Olympians to do better at the Games.
The firm’s mobile technology allows participants in the Olympics to maintain real-time connections and share their experiences, Samsung said.
The PyeongChang 2018 Olympic Games Limited Edition, unveiled on Jan. 17, includes the new features of the Galaxy Note 8, including the innovative bezel-less 6.3-inch Infinity Display that fits comfortably in one hand.
The enhanced S Pen offers efficient productivity, the tech giant said, adding the Dual Camera is also best-in-class.
Exclusively, the special edition showcases a shiny white back glass to convey the winter atmosphere and gold Olympic rings inspired by the Olympic Torch.
The exclusive device also features preloaded PyeongChang 2018 themed wallpapers and preinstalled useful apps that help participants get the most out of their Olympic experience.
“Throughout our 20-year legacy as an Olympic partner, Samsung has showcased our support for the Olympic Movement by helping spread the Olympic spirit and enhance connections through our latest technological innovations and immersive experiences,” said Lee Young-hee, CMO and executive vice president of Samsung Electronics.
“We’re proud to provide the PyeongChang 2018 Olympic Games Limited Edition to all athletes in an effort to help them stay connected and capture and share one of the most memorable times of their lives,” she said.
Samsung is also providing the Galaxy Note 8 to all athletes at the Paralympic Games 2018, along with cases featuring the Paralympic Games logo, in an effort to display its commitment to the Paralympic Movement that inspires the spirit of progress.
The company has been a world Paralympic partner since the Vancouver Games in 2010.
The firm said Paralympians will be able to learn how great mobile technologies can help make the digital world more accessible for those with disabilities by using the Galaxy Note 8.
To ensure smarter communications and smoother wireless operations among participants during the Olympic Games, Samsung is also providing an all-in-one app that offers real-time updates, athlete information, medal standings and Olympic and Paralympic records.
The official app of PyeongChang 2018, created in partnership with the IOC and the POCOG, became available for download on Jan. 24.
The firm said the app offers differentiated content based on location, news updates, tickets and venue information as well as an online cheering service to support athletes.
The app also allows users to stay up-to-date on specific events and the results they care about the most, the firm noted, adding that push-notification alerts based on users’ favorite countries, sports and athletes are also provided.

The app is available in English, Korean, French, Japanese and Chinese. It can be downloaded for free on Google Apps, Google Play Store, and iOS App Store.
Samsung began supporting the Olympics in 1988 as a local sponsor of the Seoul Olympic Games in 1988.
Beginning with the Nagano Olympic Winter Games in 1998, the company extended its commitment by providing a wireless communications platform and mobile devices as a worldwide Olympic partner.
The firm said its commitment will continue through PyeongChang 2018 as well as Tokyo 2020.
