LG CEO leads corporate responsibility acts

LG Corp. President Ha Hyeon-hoi is best-known for his game-changing business acumen to turn his firm’s sagging divisions into major cash cows while serving as top management at its electronics and display unit.
One of his noteworthy achievements includes a bet on the organic light-emitting diode (OLED) TV in 2014 when he was president of LG Electronics.
In recognition of his insights in finding the firm’s future growth area, the nation’s fourth-largest conglomerate transferred him to group management in 2015. LG said his strong determination helped realign the firm’s business portfolio.
He has since served as a major control tower in drawing group-wide long-term growth strategies in such areas as vehicle components and new renewable energy sources.
As a great-grandson of an independence fighter from the 1910-45 Japanese occupation, he has also widely engaged in the group’s decades-long commitment to corporate social responsibility (CSR).
Ever since becoming president of LG Corp., he has played a key role in expanding the firm’s drug donation campaign for kids.
“The campaign has been LG’s representative CSR activity for 23 years,” Ha said in this year’s Eutropin donation campaign at the firm’s headquarters in Seoul, Thursday.
“What LG wants is not just to help children grow taller, but make their dreams bigger. The primary goal of the campaign is not about donating the medicine, but growing the potential for them to achieve their dreams.”
LG has led the campaign since 1995, helping support more than 1,300 economically vulnerable children.
LG said Eutropin — produced by LG Life Science — helped them grow by up to 20 centimeters in a year, compared to an average growth of 4 centimeters.
LG Foundation, the philanthropic arm of LG Group, held this year’s event, donating Eutropin worth 1 billion won ($880,000) for 116 children here.
