Samsung SDS, KT awarded at mobile show

Samsung SDS and KT gained global recognition at the world’s largest mobile show, Tuesday (local time), winning the Global Mobile Awards, better known as Glomo Awards.
The awards, nicknamed the Oscars of the IT industry, are given by the Global System for Mobile Communications Association (GSMA) to firms at the annual Mobile World Congress (MWC) in honor of their contributions to the mobile communication industry.
Barcelona, Spain, hosted the 2017 MWC, which comes to an end Friday (Korea Standard Time).
Samsung SDS’ mobile security management suite claimed the award for the Best Mobile Security or Anti-fraud Solution, making the IT services unit of Samsung Group the first Korean IT systems provider to receive the prestigious prize.
“Samsung’s mobile security management suite provides companies with a secure way to manage their devices and minimize security risks without sacrificing user convenience,” the GSMA said in a statement.
According to Samsung, it is an integrated system connecting Nexsign, a biometric authentication system that authenticates identity with unique biometrics including fingerprints, face and voice, to enterprise mobile management systems to enhance user convenience and tighten security on mobile devices at the same time.
“Samsung SDS was honored with the world-renowned award for its competence in mobile security that global companies are focusing on,” said Hong Won-pyo, chief of the firm’s “solution” business division.
“We hope to be a good example for many domestic and international businesses that are keen to promote both security and user convenience.”
For KT, the nation’s No. 1 telecom firm by sales, its smart energy control platform KT-Micro Energy Grid (KT-MEG) received an award for the Best Use of Mobile for Smart Cities ― an honor given to a mobile service that contributes to changing and developing smart cities using technology.
“KT-MEG is the world’s first integrated energy management platform, managing multi-regional energy facilities from an individual building to the extent of citywide coverage and providing integrated monitoring and control of energy generation, consumption and trading,” the GSMS said.
According to the Seoul-based company, the KT-MEG Center is currently supervising approximately 16,000 websites, including energy efficiency, resource management, electric car charging services and new and renewable energy power plants.
“We are honored to win the prize and achieve global recognition for KT-MEG which is the essence of our ICT capabilities,” said KT Future Convergence Business Vice President Yun Gyeong-rim.
“KT will lead and innovate new energy businesses through KT-MEG.”
