The Korea Productivity Center (KPC) will develop a software coding license under a partnership with the European Computer Driving Licence Foundation (ECDL), a nonprofit international organization developing computer literacy certification programs, the KPC said.
According to a KPC official, Wednesday, it signed an agreement with the ECDL to develop a Korea-Europe certified international software coding license.
“The KPC has put its utmost efforts into developing IT licenses to increase Korea’s industrial productivity,” KPC Chairman and CEO Hong Soon-jick said during a signing ceremony. “The agreement with the ECDL will help develop a globally certified software coding license. I hope it will contribute to raise future IT talents.”
Under the agreement, the KPC and the ECDL will jointly develop the software coding license certified in Korea and Europe as well as IT educational content. The software coding license is expected to be certified in a total of 150 countries in Europe, the Middle East and North America.
“Software coding will be an essential skill in the near future,” ECDL CEO Damien O'Sullivan said.
“I am very happy to sign an agreement with the KPC. Korea has been renowned for its leading technologies in the IT industry. The deal will boost Europe-Korea IT cooperation.”
A KPC official said it has developed educational materials and related licenses for software coding technologies with top experts since last October, and added that it is expected to start offering the certified license in May.
ECDL certification is a globally recognized ICT and digital literacy qualification. Over 14 million people in over 150 countries have registered as candidates for ECDL-certified licenses.
The ECDL certification was developed by a task force of the Council of European Professional Informatics Societies, and was recommended by the European Commission High Level Group (ESDIS), to be a Europe-wide certification scheme in 1995.
