CJ HelloVision offering extra discount for budget mobile service

CJ HelloVision will offer discounts up to 40 percent on its monthly fee over the next two years for its budget mobile service Hello Mobile, which is double those provided by the nation’s major mobile carriers, the company said Sunday.
The discount is available for those who choose it over a handset discount under a two-year subscription contract. Customers also need to choose a long-term evolution (LTE) smartphone designed for KT’s network. The extra discount will be offered until the end of February, the company said.
The move came as CJ HelloVision is faltering amid a tax evasion scandal and its dwindling profitability last year.
“Hello Mobile is providing budget handsets and low-priced monthly plans that other telecom companies have not released,” a CJ HelloVision official said. “The extra discount, which offers double benefits compared to those provided by other telecom companies, is expected to draw favorable responses from customers who seek reasonable mobile service.”
Under the current telecom law, customers can choose to receive a 20 percent discount on their monthly mobile subscription fees instead of the subsidy provided on newly bought handsets. This law has been welcomed by those who own an unsubscribed handset and choose a lump sum payment when they buy a new handset.
As a mobile virtual network operator, CJ HelloVision has leased nationwide network infrastructure from SK Telecom and KT to provide its budget mobile services.
According to CJ HelloVision, a subscriber who chooses a monthly subscription plan that includes unlimited voice calling and text messaging as well as a 10-gigabyte data package can save 316,800 won throughout the two-year contract.
Customers can sign up for the extra discount through Hello Mobile’s website or offline outlets.
