KT said Monday it will present smart city models based on big data and the Internet of Things (IoT) at a technology summit here.

During the Smart City Innovation Summit Asia, scheduled to run from today to Thursday at KINTEX exhibition center in Goyang, Gyeonggi Province, the nation’s second-largest mobile telecommunications company plans to seek business opportunities with regional governments, aiming to boost its smart city business.

“KT has been pushing to develop differentiated technologies such as location recognition and the Internet of Small Things (IoST) to apply to diverse services in smart city projects,” KT GiGA IoT business unit head Kim Joon-keun said in a statement.

The IoST refers to a data communication technology designed to transfer small amounts of data with low energy consumption. This technology has been devised for sensors on devices that need to continuously or regularly transfer small-size data such as energy metering machines.

“We will continue to expand our smart city business by providing diverse services such as a big data-based tourism system for regional administrations,” he said.

Beside smart city models, KT will showcase an online-to-offline marketing system service, the GiGA Geo-Fencing based on location recognition technology, diverse IoST technologies, a big data tourism system that provides analysis on floating populations during regional festivals and an urban security management system, Safe Mate.

The company also plans to exhibit its IoT services designed for air quality analysis, emergency control and healthcare, which can be applied to smart city projects.
