In a surprise move, Apple launched “Apple Music,” a live music-streaming service, in Korea on Friday.
The service can be used by iPods, iPhones and iPads and Google’s Android-based equipment.
Apple Music charges 8,800 won ($7.99) for individuals and 13,000 won for a family for six months. It is slightly cheaper than services in North America. Apple Music also is offering a three-month free trial.
Apple Music, released in over 100 countries, including the U.S., in June 2015, has more than 15 million subscribers.
News of the release has gone viral on social media, and many people say the new music platform will change Korea’s music-streaming field.
