SK hynix said Thursday it will strengthen partnership with its top clients in China to create an ecosystem in mobile chips in the country.
The SK Group's semiconductor affiliate held an “SK hynix Mobile Solution Day” in the Chinese city of Shenzhen. More than 300 attended the event.
It disclosed its current and future chip-making business roadmap and updated business strategies there.
“Participants showed their keen interest in SK hynix's mobile DRAM chips and next-generation NAND flash solutions,” said Son Hee-young, assistant manager of the company's public relations team.
Representatives of SK hynix's key clients, including Xiaomi, Huawei Technology, Renovo, China Mobile, Qualcomm and MediaTek attended the event.
Qualcomm and MediaTek stressed the importance of partnership with SK hynix for the development of logic chips, it added.
Son said the chipmaker is seeking to promote the sale of its latest chip solutions, such as 8-gigabit LPDDR4 DRAM, 36-layer three-dimensional NAND flash and universal flash storage to its Chinese customers.
“SK hynix will also provide customized solutions according to different needs from our clients,” the spokesman said.
SK hynix produces memory chips at its plant in Wuxi, Jiangsu Province, with huge tax benefits and administrative support from the Chinese government.
The Wuxi plant represents Beijing's commitment to vitalize the local economy by inviting advanced technologies from foreign companies.
IHS iSuppli, a market research firm, expects the demand for mobile DRAMs in China to reach $82.8 billion by 2019 from this year's estimated $70.8 billion.
