KT’s latest home Internet of Things (IoT) technology and Olleh Giga Home Fitness has helped improve users’ lifestyle.

The service calculates users’ fitness levels and calories burnt throughout the day with a wearable micro-sensor connected to a personal device.

The service is economical, as the micro-sensor, which weighs only 7 grams, can be attached anywhere users want such as on clothes, shoes and personal sports equipment.

Users can watch Internet Protocol television (IPTV) while they are exercising, and check the information including exercise hours, distance, speed and calorie-burn at the bottom of the TV screen.

Unlike existing fitness wearable devices, the Olleh Giga Home Fitness enables users to measure exercise information inside the home.

KT’s IPTV has a music download service, Genie, which enables all family members to enjoy music. It will offer free music streaming service on channel 747 until May. 31.

Olleh TV will also broadcast live concerts of popular musicians. Users can purchase a voucher for watching the performance through the TV.

Customers can also shop for groceries at home using Olleh TV. It’s a non-stop service in collaboration with Homeplus. Customers can browse more than 400,000 products in Homeplus outlets near their house through Olleh TV. Users can order the products and pay through the TV with a remote control.

“Heavy or bulky grocery goods such as rice, bottled water and toilet paper are expected to be the most popular items at the TV Grocery Shopping service,” said a KT spokesman.

Customers can have their groceries delivered on the same day of their order if they place their order before 11:30 a.m.

The products and prices on the TV Grocery Shopping service are the same as those at offline Homeplus stores.

Sales events at Homeplus stores also apply to TV Grocery Shopping and customers can check the flyers distributed at offline stores on the TV.

To use the service, Olleh TV subscribers can select Homeplus in the TV app section of the TV’s home menu. The TV then automatically connects consumers to the nearest Homeplus store.

KT has partnered with Warner Bros, Sony Pictures and Walt Disney Company Korea to provide the latest overseas films that are unreleased in Korea, through Olleh TV. Users can watch the films through a mobile phone as well.

“The IPTV’s competitive edge depends on whether it can provide a home service platform or not. KT will continuously seek to provide optimized service in accordance with customers’ lifestyle,” said Lee Pill-jai, vice president of media business division at KT.
