LSIS said Sunday it will invest more in equipment for water treatment solutions in a move to diversify revenue sources beyond electric parts.

The nation's leading electrics equipment maker introduced what the company claims is a smart water solution at World Water Forum (WWF) that opened in Daegu.

The introduction of AQUASOL is aimed at expanding its presence in the water treatment market, said Kim Bong-kyu, a spokesman at Anyang-based LSIS.

“LSIS utilized water treatment patents to introduce a new water management system based on our automation parts such as a control system and programmable logic controller,” said the spokesman. “We are confident our latest achievement will receive a warm response from key participants.”

Every three years since 1997, the WWF mobilizes creativity, innovation and know-how on water at the conference.

Serving as a stepping-stone towards global collaboration on water challenges, the forum is a platform where the water community and policy and decision makers around the world join forces to find solutions for water management, said the forum organizer.

It is the largest international event, which seeks to advance the cause of water. This year's is the seventh event and runs for five days.

Kim said the development of the AQUASOL reflects its efforts to tackle growing challenges involving global water shortage problems.

Water issues have been political issues in many nations, while interested parties have strived to find solutions to address global water challenges.

“LSIS's water treatment solution has three steps ― automation, integration and technology advancements. AQUASOL can be used in all applications according to market situations. This can also help users save costs and better forecast demand based on accumulated data according to weather and regions,” said the spokesman.

Water treatment products for industrial applications and related services provide pure water as they are fast, reliable and cost-effective, which make them an ideal choice in situations.

The LSIS-developed water treatment solutions are being used in water-purifying facilities in Korea's major cities including the capital Seoul. The company teamed up with K-Water to jointly run water management centers.

Kim said it is focusing on countries in Southeast Asia including Vietnam, Indonesia and the Middle East, though Kim declined to specify the name of ongoing projects it is working on.

Demand for desalination projects is on the rise. Research firms expect the market for water treatment products to reach $596 billion, this year.
