LG G Flex2 uses SK hynix chip

SK hynix said Monday that its latest semiconductor chip has been installed in LG Electronics’ new smartphone.
“Our 8Gb (gigabit) low-power DDR4 (LPDDR4) was installed in a premium smartphone model. This chip is the most advanced in terms of data-processing speed and power consumption,” the company said in a statement.
The LPDDR4 used a finer 20-nanometer level processing tech. SK Group's semiconductor affiliate has been teamed up with LG Electronics for the development of the chips.
LG Electronics confirmed that it has signed with the chipmaker to use the SK chips for its curved and budget smartphone ― the G Flex 2.
SK said the 8Gb LPDDR4 works faster than 3200 megabits per second (Mbps) and operates at ultralow-voltage of 1.1 volt (V) to enhance the power efficiency by 30 percent, which runs two times faster than 1600Mbps and at a lower voltage than 1.2V of LPDDR3.
The chips are customized to allow smartphone users to experience high quality functions and for full high-definition display to be materialized smoothly.
“The importance of a memory semiconductor for performance improvement of mobile devices has been growing. In accordance with the market trend, SK hynix is leading the industry by providing the best mobile memory solution for the first time to the commercialized smartphone,” SK spokesman Son Hee-young said in the statement.
SK hynix said that it has been in talks with major Chinese smartphone vendors over the use of the chips in upcoming flagship products.
According to IHS Technology, a market research firm, premium smartphones equipped with 4GB DRAM composed of 8Gb DRAMs will come out this year and take 36 percent of the whole market, exceeding the 3GB portion over the next year.
