'KT to become game changer'

KT CEO and Chairman Hwang Chang-gyu says that the nation’s second largest mobile carrier will become a game changer this year.
"I can say KT will be much better across the board this year. KT has successfully completed training sessions. Now, the time is ripe to generate tangible results," the CEO said in his New Year message, Friday.
Hwang said that "collaboration between the union and management" and "field-driven management initiatives" as two initiatives for this year.
Urging employees to work together to address pending issues and regain investors' confidence, Hwang said KT is being challenged due to the law that caps subsidies, and intensified competition with rivals.
"The first six months of this year will be crucial. If we meet our internal target by June, then investors will be returning to us. If not, we will be in serious trouble," Hwang said.
Mentioning its newly-established baseball team KT Wiz as the nation’s 10th member of the Korea Professional Baseball (KBP) league, the CEO stressed the importance of teamwork.
"You should think about a team, not your personal record."
Hwang also called on executives to change their rigid corporate culture to a faster and smarter decision-making one.
"With telecom services being integrated, we should become a total provider," he said.
KT should strengthen big data-related businesses by integrating its services, human resources, technologies and other infrastructure, he said.
