Candiru dangerous fish in Amazon River

The Candiru is a terrifying fish. This small catfish uses its circular mouth and sharp teeth to bite flesh and then enter organisms, leaving behind a wound that looks uncannily like a bullet hole.

But this parasitic freshwater catfish does not instill fear by way of its monstrous size. On the contrary, it's small, eel-like and so translucent that it can be nearly impossible to spot in the water, which makes it even more terrifying, according to the Discovery Channel.

Some claim this fish is the most feared in the entire Amazon region, and the fear stems from the fact that it has a knack for finding open orifices and working its way inside, it says.

Once inside another organism, the Candiru feeds on its host's blood, becoming increasingly swollen, Discovery says.

The Candiru is the star of an urban legend ― which turns out to be true ― of a man who was urinating in the Amazon River when a 6-inch Candiru swam up his urine stream into his penis.

The fish remained there for days, until a surgeon was able to remove it, it says.

다른 유기체 안으로 들어가면 칸디루는 피를 빨아 먹으면서 점점 몸뚱이가 크게 불어난다고.

전설속의 칸디루는 진실로 밝혀졌다. 한 남자가 아마존강에서 소변을 보고 있었는데 길이 6인치의 칸디루가 요도를 타고 그의 성기로 들어왔다.

칸디루는 외과의사가 이를 제거할 수 있게 될 때까지 여러 날 동안 그 속에 머물렀다.

칸디루 아수에게 당해 내부를 뜯어 먹힌 인간의 시신 한 구에서 백여 마리 이상의 하천 괴물이 발견되어 왔다고 디스커버리는 전했다.
