Samsung SDS to build AI-ready network for Seoul National University

Seoul National University is preparing to overhaul its campus network in a project designed to support large-scale artificial intelligence (AI) research and move the university toward an AI-native campus.

Samsung SDS said it won the project to transform the university’s network platform, covering 243 buildings and serving about 50,000 students, faculty members and staff.

The new infrastructure will provide network speeds of up to 800 gigabits per second, allowing large volumes of data used in AI research and education to move more quickly across the campus.

The project will also introduce logical network segmentation to strengthen security and network automation to improve operational efficiency.

For students, the upgraded system is intended to provide more stable connectivity in classrooms, laboratories and libraries while reducing slowdowns and interruptions.

Researchers and professors will be able to transfer large AI training and research datasets more reliably over the higher-bandwidth network, the company said.

IT staff will also gain automated tools for device authentication and network service provisioning, reducing repetitive administrative work and helping them identify outages and unusual network activity.

Samsung SDS said it will apply its experience designing, building and operating software-defined networks at 13 global sites serving more than 80,000 users.

The company will use software-based network segmentation to separate research, administrative and educational networks and limit unnecessary access between them.

It will also introduce an automated portal that allows users to request services such as IP addresses, device registration and new networks for research, with approved settings applied automatically under established policies.
