Major home hygiene products company P&G Korea is expecting stronger sales this summer as it promotes its lineup of odor-control products ahead of Korea’s monsoon season.

Korea typically experiences a monthlong period of heavy rainfall from June to July. While the Korea Meteorological Administration has not yet officially declared the start of this year’s monsoon season, many expect it to arrive soon.

The monsoon season is notorious for creating unpleasant odors in homes, particularly from damp laundry and bathrooms, as extended periods of rain reduce opportunities for clothes to dry naturally in the sun. According to the weather agency’s climate outlook for June through August, temperatures and precipitation levels are expected to be above average this year. Such conditions often keep people indoors for longer periods and increase household laundry loads.

This summer may also see more people staying at home than in previous years, according to P&G Korea. The company cited a survey released in May by the Korea Press Foundation’s Media Research Center, which found that many respondents had canceled travel plans and opted to remain at home. More than 43 percent cited financial concerns stemming from the weak Korean won and rising oil prices linked to tensions in the Middle East.

Anticipating growing demand for home-care solutions during the wet season, P&G Korea on Wednesday highlighted its latest odor-management products.

The company’s Febreze Bathroom Air Freshener is designed to eliminate the sources of odors in bathrooms rather than simply masking them. It targets common bathroom odors such as drain smells, dampness-related mustiness and toilet odors. Users simply press a button to activate the product and place it where needed, and it can continue working for up to 60 days.

The product’s fragrance lineup has also expanded based on consumer survey results. Newly introduced scents include Fresh Forest, Citrus and Downy April, joining existing options such as Fresh Sky, Lavender Bouquet and Downy Clean Cotton.

Laundry care is another key focus for P&G Korea. The company’s Downy brand has long been a popular choice for managing odors in towels and clothing exposed to sweat and humidity. Even when clothes are washed frequently, unpleasant odors can persist if they do not dry properly.

Downy Indoor Dry Fabric Enhancer is designed to remove the root causes of odors while providing a fresh, sun-dried scent throughout the day. The product is particularly suitable for items that tend to retain odors, including towels, shirts and sportswear. Its fragrance lineup includes the recently launched Cotton & Fresh Soap, as well as Fresh Clean and Floral Blossom.

“With record-breaking heat and high humidity forecast this summer, along with an increase in time spent at home, consumers’ daily concerns about odors are expected to grow,” a P&G Korea official said.

“Recently, interest has been rising in products that not only address the root causes of odors but also enhance the freshness of living spaces with scents tailored to individual preferences. We hope that through Febreze and Downy products, consumers can reduce their summer odor concerns and enjoy a more pleasant daily life.”
