The Walt Disney Company Korea and Lotte Corporation said Tuesday they will host a Star Wars fan festival in the Lotte World Tower area of Jamsil, in southern Seoul, from May 1 to May 17.

The event, titled “Star Wars Day 2026 in Jamsil,” will carry the theme “One with the Force” and coincide with Star Wars Day, observed each year on May 4. The date plays on the franchise’s signature line, “May the Force be with you,” and its phonetic echo in “May the fourth.” The Walt Disney Company Korea has held Star Wars Day events in Korea since 2015.

The centerpiece of the festival is the Star Wars Arena, an outdoor installation on the Lotte World Tower plaza open daily from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. throughout the event period.

A 10-meter-tall sculpture of Grogu — the child character from "The Mandalorian" often known as Baby Yoda — will serve as the centerpiece, alongside a photo zone designed to give visitors the illusion of levitating through the use of the Force. The space will also feature a cockpit simulation of the Razor Crest and a scouting mission activity set on the planet Sorgan from the series.

The installation will serve as a preview space for "The Mandalorian and Grogu," the theatrical film featuring Din Djarin and Grogu, set to open in Korea on May 27. The Disney+ series on which the film is based received 13 Emmy Award wins at the 73rd Primetime Emmy Awards.

Exhibition and retail components include a showcase of rare collector items — helmets, lightsabers and figurines — owned by Korean fans, a display of Mandalorian-themed Lego sets, and a Hot Toys showroom featuring major Star Wars characters. Select Hot Toys products will be available for purchase, along with random-box merchandise, at a pop-up store in the basement level of Lotte World Tower.

On May 4 and May 5, Korea's Children's Day holiday, a character parade will move through the Star Wars Arena grounds, Seoul Sky and Jamsil Hangang Park, with members of the 501st Legion's Korea chapter marching alongside a band performing live renditions of Star Wars original soundtrack pieces.

On the evening of May 5, a drone show produced in collaboration with the Seoul Metropolitan Government will run for approximately 10 minutes over Jamsil Hangang Park, depicting Star Wars characters and spacecraft against the Seoul night skyline.

Lotte Cinema Superflex will also hold a special screening of the final two episodes of the Disney+ animated series "Star Wars: Tales of the Underworld", which follows the story of Maul.

Jhoo Dong-chan

Do not go gentle into that good night, old age should burn and rave at close of day; Rage, rage against the dying of the light, though wise men at their end know dark is right, because their words had forked no lightning they, do not go gentle into that good night.
