LG Electronics said Wednesday it has agreed with KT, Korea's No. 2 mobile carrier, to carry out joint research on advanced secure communication technology.
The two companies signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to conduct in-depth studies on quantum direct communication technology amid the growing need to establish networks with "hyper security" features, it added.
Quantum direct communication enables secure data transmission as data transmitted in a quantum state collapses upon detecting any eavesdropping attempts.
The technology is anticipated to offer strong data security for AI-powered services applied in homes, smart factories and self-driving vehicles.
LG Electronics and KT have been forging closer ties in the telecommunications industry, including joint research and development projects for sixth-generation (6G) networks last year.
