Hyundai Steel participated in an end-of-year blood donation campaign for children with pediatric cancer as part of its efforts to fulfill corporate social responsibility, the company said Tuesday.
Employees and executives of the steelmaker gave 1,004 blood donation cards to the Korea Childhood Leukemia Foundation on Dec. 24, as part of a voluntary campaign to support young patients from socially vulnerable groups.
“Hyundai Steel has conducted active blood donation campaigns at its headquarters and major worksites nationwide for the past six months,” an official from the company said. “Blood donation is an act of life sharing. We will keep fulfilling the social role by holding such campaigns sustainably.”
Hyundai Steel has stood at the forefront of donating blood cards for nearly two decades. Employees of the firm’s steel plant in Dangjin, South Chungcheong Province, have been actively participating in the campaign since 2005.
In 2019, the number of accumulated blood donation participants at the plant topped 10,000 for the first time. The provincial government also awarded a commendation to the company, recognizing its commitment to social responsibility.
Hyundai Steel has operated blood donation buses at each of its worksites to encourage more staff to take part in the campaign. The company also organizes diverse prize events for employees who give blood donation cards, further motivating them to join the social campaign.
