HD Hyundai Oilbank has made diverse social contribution efforts in various sectors of society, the oil refiner said Wednesday.

After HD Hyundai Oilbank became the nation’s first conglomerate whose employees voluntarily donate 1 percent of their base wage to important causes, all other affiliates of HD Hyundai joined these efforts in 2020 through the HD Hyundai 1 Percent Sharing Foundation.

The foundation supplies meals to low-income older adults and heating oil to vulnerable households and facilities, while granting scholarships to underprivileged children.

HD Hyundai Oilbank’s employees have also participated in volunteer work over the past 19 years.

Last year, they made cochlear implant hairbands for deaf children and lecterns for child care centers. This year, they also created toys for abandoned dogs, with support from social enterprises that promote economic activities for disabled and low-income people.

As part of 22 years of marine environment conservation efforts around Seosan, South Chungcheong Province, home to HD Hyundai Oilbank’s headquarters, the company released 200,000 young rockfish into the sea in June. The company has also bought rice from farms neighboring its Daesan factory in the city to donate to local social welfare agencies.

In 2019, HD Hyundai Oilbank began supporting the production of "barrier-free" movies including subtitles and audio descriptions for people with visual or hearing impairments, as well as for multicultural families.

In 2020, the company partnered with the K League and Adidas to provide talented young football players with training from both former and current professional players.
