Samsung Galaxy station opens in Malaysia's capital

A subway station in Kuala Lumpur has been renamed after Samsung Electronics' flagship smartphone as the company's latest promotional strategy kicked off in one of its key markets in Southeast Asia, according to the global electronic appliance maker, Monday.
Tun Razak Exchange (TRX) station in the Malaysian capital has become TRX Samsung Galaxy Station. The naming, effective for one year, came last Thursday after the company and the city's metro operator MRT agreed on the ad campaign.
The deal has led to the redesign of the interiors and exteriors of subway cars passing through the station by putting on ad decals for the Galaxy S24 Series and Galaxy AI. The ads for the brand's latest smartphone model and AI engine are all over the station's walls, turnstiles and subway platform safety doors.

The local area in the vicinity of the station is one of the busiest financial districts in the city and is frequented by a heavy volume of foot traffic, according to Samsung. The station, offering a transfer to Kazjang Line and Putrajaya Line, is used by an average of 380,000 passengers per day.
The name change came as Malaysia has seen the biggest volume of new shipments of the company's smartphones in Southeast Asia. Samsung Electronics Executive Chairman Lee Jae-yong chose the country as his first business trip destination this year, paying his first visit last month.
During the visit, he visited a battery factory run by Samsung SDI, an electronic subsidiary of Samsung Group, in Seremban to check its operations and meet employees there. He also visited Samsung Electronics' shop in Kuala Lumpur which is the largest of its kind in Southeast Asia.
