KT, Korea's leading telecom conglomerate, said Thursday it plans to hire around 1,000 this year, mainly in the information technology and media content divisions, as part of efforts to facilitate the company's digital innovation.

From Friday to March 3, KT and its affiliates, including KT DS and KT cloud, were scheduled to hire executive-level employees for positions in the large artificial intelligence, IT, cloud computing and digital media divisions as well as new business development and consulting, according to company officials.

The company also plans to carry out ad-hoc recruitment later this year to secure experts in other areas.

KT has been working to foster and train human resources in the AI area by creating AI master's courses at major Korean universities, such as Hanyang University, Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology and Pohang University of Science and Technology.

"We will put in efforts to actively recruit talent and foster their growth to provide new value to our customers and realize a more advanced future as our customers' digital innovation partner," Ko Choong-rim, KT's chief human resources officer, said. (Yonhap)
