Samsung chief's youngest daughter interns at Chicago NGO

Lee Won-joo, daughter of Samsung Electronics Executive Chairman Lee Jae-yong, has been working as an intern at the Simmons Center for Global Chicago, according to the U.S. nongovernmental organization, Wednesday.
According to the NGO's official webpage, Lee is currently interning at the organization under her English name, Madison Lee.
The organization is a small-scale group with three full-time staffers and four interns, including Lee.
On a page introducing workers at the organization, she said, "I am from Seoul, South Korea, but I was born in New York City. I am currently a second-year student at the University of Chicago, majoring in Data Science."
She continued, "I always try my best to positively impact whatever society and community I belong to or reside in. I have assisted with local community service groups near my high school campus and within campus. I am excited to be working at Simmons Center for Global Chicago."
The Simmons Center for Global Chicago was established in 1999. It is known to connect global nonprofit organizations, philanthropists, social activists, jobseekers and scholars for regional development and provides a variety of information.

Meanwhile, her father left for the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Tuesday for business meetings. He will also visit Malaysia to inspect the overall market situation of Southeast Asia after the Middle East leg of his trip.
His departure came just a day after the Seoul Central Court acquitted him in the trial over the merger of Samsung C&T and Cheil Industries and alleged accounting fraud at Samsung Biologics.
The executive chairman departed for the UAE through the Seoul Gimpo Business Aviation Center. He did not respond to questions from reporters at the airport.
The UAE is the first overseas destination he visited after taking office as the executive chairman of Samsung Electronics in 2022. At that time, he visited the construction site of the Barakah Nuclear Energy Plant in the UAE, which is Korea’s first overseas nuclear power plant construction project, and includes Samsung Group’s construction arm Samsung C&T.
After touring Middle Eastern countries, the executive chairman is forecast to head to Malaysia, where Samsung SDI is building a battery factory, and Samsung C&T recently completed the construction of Merdeka 118, the second-tallest building in the world, standing at 679 meters tall.
