HD Hyundai Oilbank opens unmanned kiosk store at gas station

HD Hyundai Oilbank has opened an unmanned convenience store at one of its gas stations in Yongin, Gyeonggi Province, the first of its kind installed at any gas station in Korea, the company said.
The establishment of the Muin Kiosk Shop, a brand developed by social venture Urban Sharing Company, is part of the company's move to diversify its business portfolio via gas stations across the nation. Muin means unmanned in Korean.
The Ministry of SMEs and Startups has partnered with the Ministry of Science and ICT and other government organizations to help the social venture operate unmanned convenience stores for the self-employed and small businesses.
In response to the social programs, the nation's second-largest gas station operator offered a venue at one of its gas stations. Occupying 23 square meters inside the gas station, the store offers about 200 items. HD Hyundai Oilbank said that it will add various products produced by startups and small businesses to the store.
According to the Brand Reputation Index, HD Hyundai Oilbank stood atop the list of the country’s gas station brands in October. It operates 2,500 stations across the country. Of them, it directly manages 352 gas stations.
The company will use its nationwide gas stations as a way to expand into such sectors as electric vehicle charging stations, car camping stations and mini excavator sales, a company official said.
